Common Exceptions

  • java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: node to traverse cannot be null!
thrown by Hibernate when you use a @NamedQuery but call createQuery instead of createNamedQuery on javax.persistence.Query.

  • com.sun.tools.javac.code.Symbol$CompletionFailure: file javax\ejb\ApplicationException.class not found
thrown by Maven, add groupId javax.ejb and ejb-api artifact in version 3.0 to your POM dependencies.

  • You have not defined a non-jta-data-source for a RESOURCE_LOCAL enabled persistence context named: ...
define a <non-jta-data-source>java:/datasource</non-jta-data-source> for your persistence unit

  • heaps of NoSuchMethodError when running JUnit tests with Spring
in my case it was an outdated cglib in pom.xml. I just added cglib-nodep version 2.1_3 and test scope to my POM to resolve the issue.

Southwest USA Trip

18/12: takeoff in Munich, had to spend a night in Paris ... damn you Air France!

19/12: arrived in Atlanta in the arvo - US drug dogs are sooo cute :) continued to Phoenix. BBQ with Bill and Alex at their house in Chandler

20/12: shopping in Phoenix, malls bloody expensive - finally got a good price for my new camera at amazon.com; dinner at some steakhouse

21/12: sleeping mainly to get over the jetlag and watching some NFL. early XMas celebrations in the evening.

22/12: started our trip to Grand Canyon which was covered by a snowstorm. gonna take some photos and do some hiking next time. continued to Kingman on Route 66 through Ashfork :)))

23/12: went to Hoover Dam in the morning, arrived in Las Vegas around lunchtime; checked into Tropicana and went to Las Vegas Boulevard

24/12: XMas in Vegas, reasonably priced night show tickets all sold out - reservation next time! did some shopping and had fantastic mexican dinner

25/12: moved on to Bishop through Death Valley: AMAZING!!!. remember it's hard to get supplies on a public holiday - gotta buy food earlier next time :)

26/12: from Bishop to Sacramento. nearly ran out of petrol in the middle of nowhere (Sierra Nevada); went through Tahoe which is just a busy tourist town - not very relaxing.

27/12: went to Napa Valley to do some wine tasting. cellars charge you for tasting starting at USD 15, so we just stocked up on wine and drank at the hotel.

28/12: day trip to the Redwood National Park. unfortunately pouring rain - not much hiking. went back the same day and stayed in Wilits.

29/12: arrived in San Francisco; stayed at Daytona Hotel near Union Square. went to Chinatown and did some after-giftmas shopping

30/12: Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Park and city center

31/12: Alcatraz in the morning. purchased a book written and signed by a former inmate. no
New Year's party at the Golden Gate Bridge at all, Union Square closed off as well. somebody gotta show the Americans how to celebrate New Year's :)

01/01: left Frisco South to Silicon Valley, Santa Cruz and Monterey where we spent the night.

02/01: went to Cannery Row and got some Simms pants for Martina's Dad. Big Sur covered in fog and rain unfortunately. another spot we gotta save for our next visit.

03/01: arrived in Santa Monica and spent the night in Hollywood

04/01: Hollywood Boulevard and Universal Studios. Krustyworld is just awesome :)

05/01: arrived back in Phoenix after a short stop in Joshua Tree National Park, which is not that remarkable imho. Took a photo of the Phoenix international raceway ... next time I gotta see a race.

06/01: final day of shopping in Phoenix.

07/01: left Phoenix. got selected for security checks but didn't have to go through customs; the French messed up again, but still managed to get my flight to Munich

fantastic trip, got a lot to see, though we still saved some stuff for next time: Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Monterey Aquarium, Big Sur and Seaworld :)
